US housing award recognizes live/work development

A scheme boasting 39 live/work units is a finalist in a US-wide housing award scheme.

"The Crossing" in Anaheim, California, received recognition as an award finalist in several categories of the National Association of Home Builders' 2010 Pillars of Industry awards, including "Best Clubhouse at a Multifamily Community". 

Developed by SARES-REGIS and designed by architects KTGY, the development features 312 lofts and one- and two-bedroom apartment homes as well as the 39 live/work units.

The scheme is located adjacent to the Anaheim Metrolink and Amtrak train stop on former industrial land and is designed to be a showpiece scheme for promoting healthy and sustainable living practices.

"The Crossing" has dedicated parking for 120 plus bicycles and parking willl be offered on a preferential basis for fuel efficient vehicles. The scheme's environmental features also include cool roof technology and carpets made from recycled plastic bottles,

To mitigate the noise of the trains passing by, the scheme's units are oriented to private courtyards within the buildings.
